Homemade Incubators, whats best??

Hi folks, ARES my Hypo-Motley het bloodred MALE i bought from the local pet shop 2wks ago started laying eggs on me!!

I wasnt hoping to get into any kind of breeding till next year, so this one caught me off guard
and thrown a spanner into my breeding plans!
And its just typical that she'd lay 13 eggs

She has now been renamed Autumn

So anyway I have built a homemade incubator using the old fish tank heater in water method, just wanted to know if this method is safe/works succesfully, or do you guys have another better/proven method, and if so how to go about it!

I've never used a tank heater before so can't comment on that. I do however use a home made incubator made from a polystyrene box with a heat mat taped to the lid, then put the thermostat, thermometer and hygrometer probes inside one of the egg boxes.

I'll havta try that one thanx ian, do you havta keep ontop of the humidity? Or is the humidity not really a factor with corn eggs? I got told my way years ago by a pet shop owner but he used this method mainly for geckos!

humidity needs to be as high as possible without getting the eggs soggy, my hygrometer reads 98-99%

After a bit of faffing around tryna get the temps right i've finally put them into a homemade polybox incubator, the humidity is 99% with temps at 27-28*C and another therm says 82-84F i think that one may be a little out tho!

The eggs were starting to dent slightly while in the other one, so ive covered them in damp moss and they look to be filling back out, all are nice and white with veiny insides!
