Home made Vivs

Postby deadmansfinger » 07 May 2010, 11:19

Hi All,

I am new on here, only just got my first corn snake 10 days ago but have been keeping reptiles and various creepy crawlies for 20 years. Here's some pics of some home made vivs I have built, might give some of you some inspiration if you are planning to do the same :)

Yeh it's amazing what size you can get in a corner viv without taking up too much space. That one was 5'x4'x3.5' and hardly seemed to take up much room at all.

Cheers,

It's not painted, I tiled them.

Makes them very easy to just wipe clean.

Really love the corner viv. Hmmm makes me think do I buy my next vivs or make them. I am sure it takes a lot of practice to get those super vivs though!

Hi not at all the big corner one was the first one I made. It's just a 2"x2" frame with 6mm plywood sides and base, mesh top and glass doors. Very straightforward :D As long as you get the frame totally straight then the rest is easy.

VERY nice!

I'm getting ready to build my own terrarium soon...but I was curious what kind of wood you used and any other things you do to the wood (paint, sealant, staining) ...

any input would much appreciated!!!

Cheers, Sara

The wood to build the frame of the vivs was 2"x2". I just bought cheap offcuts, not sure what kind it was. The frame was held together with 3" screws. I didn't treat any of the wood as it was all covered by tiles. The only decent wood I bought was to finish off the front and top of the big viv. This was pine. The 2 smaller vivs were finished with wood off of an old pallet I got from work :D

Have fun,

Brian.

I was just saying to my hubby last night how I wanted a nice corner viv (well two, maybe three stacked but to look like one big one if you know what I mean...)

That is fab!
